QR codes won't scan

Sometimes the QR codes on attendee tickets or badges or volunteer badges won't scan.  There are a few immediate fixes:

  • Try a different device
  • Enter the badge or ticket code manually in the scanner area
  • Go to the attendee or volunteer's application and manually mark their attendance

If you are having persistent problems they may be cause by one of these issues:

  • The print quality of the QR code is too low for the scanner to be able to read the code. This can happen if the badges or tickets are printed on paper and used over multiple days. You could try printing the tickets or badges again to improve the quality
  • Part of the QR code might be missing.  Try reprinting the affected tickets or badges, making sure the print margins are not cutting off any part of the QR code.

Some devices scan with greater accuracy than others.  You can test the device you plan to use during your event by following this link and scanning the QR code (you will need to be logged into SignMeUp with an account which has scanner as one of the admin permissions).  You should see a 'scan successful' message.  It is worth testing the device in various lighting conditions and scanning from various angles.  Testing multiple devices is also advised.
